Web: Grand Slam Poverty?

The Toronto Star has published an investigation into how Pastor Paul Melnichuk, patriarch of the UFO-shaped church The Prayer Palace, one of Canada's largest evangelical congregations, and his twin sons, Tim and Tom, have amassed a fleet of fine cars and a pricey portfolio of fancy homes while doing little of the charity work their church claims to do.

"You see, you weren't designed to live in a apartment building. You were designed to own the apartment building you're living in," Tom Melnichuk said, calling for his followers to think positive. "If you don't watch it, you'll be eating at Denny's for the rest of your entire life."

Uh, is he saying eating a Grand Slam Breakfast is a sign I've fallen from grace? When I "think positive" I see myself eating $1.99 pancakes at 3 a.m. And Denny's is always open, which is more than they can claim for their church's ministries.

Here's a review of a Prayer Palace service in 2005 by our friends at Ship of Fools.
